"To keep ourselves right in all things, we ought to hold fast to this principle: What seems to me to be white, I will believe to be black if the hierarchical Church thus determines it. For we believe that between Christ our Lord, the Bridegroom, and the Church, His Spouse, there is the one same Spirit who governs and guides us for the salvation of our souls..." - Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius [365]

Send Us Your Spirit

Last Sunday, the Catholic Church celebrated the great Solemnity of Pentecost, the "birthday" of the Church. We remember the time when the promised "paraclete" came to the fearful apostles and to some women, including Mary the Mother of Jesus, in the upper room. When they have received the Holy Spirit, their was renewal and revival, making them bold to proclaim the Gospel to the ends of the earth.

Last Monday, the Philippines had the first day of classes. I consider this very providential -- beginning the school year with Pentecost. As most universities will be celebrating the Mass of the Holy Spirit to formally begin the school year, we beg the Holy Spirit to continue to guide us in all our endeavors.

Good luck to all the students and teachers and may you all have a fruitful school year.
